Australian Privacy & Biometric Data Framework
Last Updated: June 2026|Compliance Standard: Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) / Australian Privacy Principles (APPs)
Applies to: Retail Alert Vision (In-Store) & Retail Alert ANPR (Forecourt)
1. Our Privacy-by-Design Commitment
Retail Alert provides world-class asset protection and loss prevention systems for Australian merchants. We believe that protecting local businesses, inventory, and staff safety should never come at the expense of consumer privacy.
Our platform is engineered from the ground up under a strict Privacy-by-Design philosophy. We do not engage in mass surveillance, public tracking, or consumer profiling.
2. How Our Technology Works (Data Transparency)
A. Retail Alert Vision (In-Store Asset Protection)
When an individual enters a premises secured by Retail Alert Vision, our edge computing hardware processes the local video stream in real time.
- The Vector Process: The system analyzes facial geometry to create a localized, transient mathematical string (a “vector hash”).
- Instant Purging: This mathematical string is instantly cross-referenced against the specific store’s private, localized risk watchlist.
- Zero Retention for General Public: If there is no match, both the video frame and the mathematical vector are permanently destroyed within milliseconds. The system does not know who you are, nor does it keep a record of your visit.
B. Retail Alert ANPR (Forecourt Vehicle Risk Mitigation)
Our Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) systems monitor refueling lanes strictly to prevent fuel theft, drive-offs, and localized criminal activity.
- Plate data is matched against active risk databases to alert service station operators before a dispensing pump is authorized.
- Data logs are securely siloed and encrypted, ensuring general vehicle movements are never tracked across unauthorized networks.
3. Core Privacy Protections & Guardrails
Absolute Data Sovereignty:
All data, security logs, and system operations are encrypted using industry-standard AES-256 protocols and are hosted strictly on secure servers located physically within Australia. No data is ever transferred or stored overseas.
Decentralized Biometrics vs. Shared Network Intelligence:
- For Retail Alert Vision (Faces): Environments are strictly decentralized and siloed. To maintain the highest standard of privacy compliance, biometric mathematical vectors are completely isolated to your specific retail operating group. We do not operate a shared public biometric dragnet.
- For Retail Alert ANPR (Vehicles): To effectively mitigate fuel theft and drive-offs, vehicle risk profiles are cross-referenced against an active, shared network database. This allows service stations to safely identify known high-risk plates before a pump is authorized, protecting the broader retail community from repeat offenses.
Human-in-the-Loop Safeguard:
Our AI does not make autonomous operational or punitive decisions. The system solely issues private, internal notifications to authorized store management. Final verification and customer service interactions are always handled entirely by trained human staff.
4. Your Rights under the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs)
As an individual interacting with a premises utilizing Retail Alert infrastructure, you retain full rights under the Privacy Act 1988:
- • Right of Access You have the right to request access to any personal information or logged data held about you (subject to legal identity verification to prevent unauthorized disclosure).
- • Right of Correction If an operational log contains inaccurate information, you have the right to request an immediate correction.
- • Inquiries & Feedback If you have questions regarding the technical deployment at a specific retail location, or wish to lodge a formal privacy inquiry, please contact our dedicated compliance team directly.
